This project required me to work in a team which consisted on 3 people, myself and +zooluluu Zoe Lane as an artist and Sam Young as animator. The project required us to make a short sting for a tv channel, we chose to create an E4 sting as there is a competition ran by E4 every year, so hopefuly we will be able to enter ours. For the project each artist created a character mine a robot dog on wheels and the other a purple doberman guard dog. My robot character is shown below. The sting is also shown below and can be found on youtube here.

Planet Environment Concept Art
Now in my third year, one of the collaberative projects I will be working on is called "Pathfinder" a Filming Project directed by Dominic Pugh. This is a vfx project where actors will be comped into a cg scene. As an artist I will be working collaboratively with Zoe Lane to create the interior of a space ship of which live action actors will be comped into. I will also be creating the planet of which the spaceship crashes into after being hit by another spaceship. Here I have started some rough concept designs of the exterior environemt, the planet. I have mainly focuses on colour schemes here, I am now hoping to refine the rocky design and surface textures.
Here I have started to focus on interesting rock formations:
Derelict Garage Environment
Here is an environment I created in Maya, an old abandonded / derelict garage. This project was done in very little time, therefore I am happy with the outcome eventhough I know it could be improved alot given more time.

Digital Painting
Having a traditional background in art and animation I have always wanted to transfer these skills into a digital format, I have now started to develop my digital painting techniques using a wacom and Photoshop. Being very interested in producing concept art for film and game, this has always interested me. I have started by reading such magazines as Imagine FX which provides help workflows and free brushes etc to help you as an artist. As I'm currently designing a female character I have by using the female face as my subject for now. In most tutorials for digital painting, I have read that under painting is a very useful method, by where you paint the subject in black and white rather than colour firstly, then add the colours on to. This helps you as an artist to see the tones and shapes correctly instead of getting confused and overly colourful in your paintings. Here are some pieces I have started.
"Time is Money"
The "Time is Money" short was a collaberative project with Zoe Lane as another artist, Sam Young as animator, Darren Morgan on exsplosive effects and Adam Soley on sound. The project was a huge thing for us all to take on and probably a bit naive in thinking we had enough time. However the project was still very successful, however if given more time alot more things could be refined.
Please click here and enjoy our short.
Rolls Royce Phantom II 1935 3D Model
For the storyline the character's needed a get a way vehicle, being 1930's gangsters I chose to create the 1935 model of the Rolls Royce Phantom II, this was a realy enjoyable project and think it has turned out quite successful with the use of maya shaders.
Below are some stills from the film "Time is Money"
1930's Town Environment - Buildings & Props
The environment was collaberatively built with another artist Zoe Lane, we split the buildings, props and lighting set up equaly. Here is one of the buildings that I created for the scene, a corner shop. With the storyline being based in the 1930's I needed to make the shop fit in and be recognisable to this era. I have done this by using shop signs and producs available from this period.

Gangster Character & Props
For my major project I worked on a short set in the 1930's where a bank in the center of a london town is robbed, here is a design of the character before production of the model began.
Above is the final character model built in maya, textured using mud box and photoshop then rendered with mental ray.
This was drawn with a wacom in photoshop, having an illustration and painting background I hope to focus on digital painting in the future.

I also built a set of props for the short, shown below.
CG Live Action Comp Project 1
For this project I had to create two live action composition images. These are my two final images which turned out quite succcesfuly.
To do this I got a camera with a tripod to take the image for the back plate, I then took the same image again but with a cube in the shot, this will allow me to align the maya scene to the photograph. Then inorder to light the scene correctly using a chrome ball I wass able to create a HDR image that would capture the light information of the environment, this was then used in maya to match the lighting of the object to the scene. The process is shown below.

Final Lighting Project Compostion
The lighting project was very useful in learning how to show off my model in the most efficient way in terms of render times and quality. Here is a turnaround of my hand model in the lighting comp I created.

Ignoring my blog
It has been a long time since my last post in my blog, actualy almost a year exactly. So no that I'm pretty much a third through my final year, I thought it'd be best for me to start posting on here again to help me document my progression as a cg artist, and inorder to help my career oppertunities. Firstly I'll post projects that I have been working on in the last year.
